Don McLean wrote this song for Vincent Van Gogh back in 1971. It’s beautiful. I’ve heard it a gazillion times in my life, but after Chris died, I heard it again, and it became new. Mr. McLean could have written it for him. Every word.
It makes me sad, but it also makes me feel better in a way. This morning, I was feeling pretty awful about the unfairness of it all, that he didn’t get the simple things he wanted out of life, that he lived with a hole in him he couldn’t fill. But Chris also lived a life of amazing beauty, understanding, and appreciation for things most of us never will. That’s something. That’s really something.
Peace.
It is beautiful and one of my favorites. ❤
Side note: Don McLean lived in Cold Spring and when I was a teenager I worked in the town pharmacy that he always came in and got his pictures developed (remember that??) It was against the rules but we always looked at his pictures (And Pete Seger's) Wow, the stories I could tell, LOL 😉

Debbie, that’s very cool!! Yeah, Pete Seger was a regular on the Hudson River, wasn’t he? Didn’t he do something with efforts to clean it up?

The Sloop (sp?) was his boat, remember that back in the 70’s on the Hudson? He was (is??) a big proponent to clean the river.

Beautiful sentiments we both share! Our son was a rare gem and our hearts have a gaping hole from this loss! Thankfully we have so much!

Maybe because I love Van Gogh and his story…

Me too. Gracie always loved Van Gogh. When she was little, she did a report on him, had a poster of Starry Night, and a coffee table book of his art.
